Fredrick, our manager in Mongu and I laugh as we occasionally have to remind each other of things we have forgotten or done since 2011 when we first met. Fredrick is 62 years old now and I am 60 and even though we keep the best records we can, we some times have to ask each other to remind us of things or the names of seeds I have sent him from Canada or he has collected in Zambia.
Thank goodness for seed catalogs so he can see what the ripe fruit looks like so he knows when it is ready to harvest and what it is. A lot of the tree seeds in Mongu have common names and we have to figure out their scientific name which is not always easy. By the way if anyone has any old seed catalogs you don’t need, please get in touch as we need more to send to our newest location In Chipata. joanne@sendseedstoafrica.org
Fredrick has 9 children and we are so blessed to have two of his sons who are wonderful, hard working, committed young men who will take over SEEDS-Mongu when Fredrick & I are to old to remember what we are doing.
This is a picture of Fredrick our manager/owner at SEEDS-Mongu and his two sons, Emanuel on the left and Matindo on the right. They gave their Dad a block to stand on for the picture as they are taller then he is. Good fun!
Emanuel, who loves farming, is now taking a course in Agriculture at Mongu Trades Training Institute and is being sponsored by SEEDS.
Matindo has already taken an agriculture course in Kaoma Youth Resource Centre in 2016 and is now attending Eden University in Lusaka to become a nurse, also sponsored by SEEDS.
We wish them both all the best in life as they have done so much for SEEDS over these past 7 years and we are ever so grateful. Thank you both for being such great, caring, good humans. Love Ya! Joanne.
