SEEDS Mongu had a surprise visit from a group called Mother Earth. They brought various local tree seeds and offered to work together to share some knowledge of these trees and the wonderful Moringa tree. They were the lead farmers from Kaande, Itema, Mweke, Ilundu and Maowa which are areas surrounding our resource gardens in Mongu. Our manager Fredrick gave them some of our seeds as well. We have Marula seeds now and getting ready to plant them.
Then Rachael Kavanagh, from the Mother Earth Group came to SEEDS and taught eight farmers from our area how to graft lemon trees into orange or tangerines trees. Another Teacher taught us about Napier grass which is much healthier for cattle to eat
Rachael is leaving Barotseland after working there for over 10 years and we are sorry to see her go.
Her last day at work she managed to make a nursery for herbs and flowers. Seeds given to us by The Silozi Seed Bank & Trees For Elephants. The grass is for mulching. Thanks so much Rachael for all of your guidance and training and all you have done for the people of Barotseland!
