Our manager in Kalabo told me in 2017 that farmers would walk for 9 hours to come and pick up a bushel of his tomatoes. Mualuka had over 3000 tomatoes plants. Can you imagine walking 9 hours there and 9 hours home to get a bushel of tomatoes so you could have some thing to eat and seeds to grow your own tomatoes.
Our goal at SEEDS was to help rural farmers grow food. Many farmers are coming to SEEDS Resource Gardens to pick up non GMO vegetable and fruit tree seeds and here are a few pictures of those farmers. Some I took on one of my 5 visits to Mongu, Kalabo, Lusaka, Kaoma and Livingstone Barotseland and some of the pictures Fredrick, our manager in Mongu, has sent me from his phone.
In order to fulfill our goal of getting seeds to those who need them most, we need a 4×4 vehicle. If you can help us provide seeds to out lying areas by making a monetary donation towards a vehicle many farmers would be eternally grateful. This year the drought in Zambia has effected everyone. The rains did finally come, but a lot of farmers lost their first planting of vegetables and crops they could sell. Therefore they will not have seed for their next planting. Now they will rely on small vegetable gardens to feed their families and sell some of those vegetables just to get by and hopefully see their children through another year of school.
Lets help this Easter by filling their Easter baskets with seeds so they will make it to the next rainy season this October.
