It is that time of year when everyone is anticipating spring and I think we all want it to come more than most years.
If you are a gardener, you are even more anxious to have some warm weather.
I was fortunate to be able to experience a Seedy Sat & Sunday at two different venues.
This first event was at the Evergreen Brickworks on March 8th, 2014 and Ellena joined me to help out. I also met a wonderful woman named Sandy who is doing all of this research for us on the best ways to grow vegetables in Zambia. I am sure you will hear more about Sandy’s great ideas in future posts.
The 2nd event was at Scadding Community Centre at Bathurst & Dundas on Saturday March 15th .
The vendors are so nice at all of these Seedy days. Two of them donated seeds for me to take to Zambia.
Cubit’s ethical seeds for edible gardens, www.CubitsOrganics.com donated Scarlet, Red cored and White carrots and Parsnip seeds.
Mountain Grove Seed Co. RR # 1 Parham, Ontario K0H 2k0, near Kingston On., no internet as they are so remote, donated Quinoa and multi coloured beans. They even gave me the heads of the Quinoa so I can take to show my connections in Zambia what they look like when grown.
Thank you so much to everyone who is helping me learn and encouraging this project. God Bless!
And this is the blizzard that happened in the middle of the week, between these two dates.
I also attended the Seedy Saturday on March 22nd. at Blessed Cardinal Newman High School. It was great as my Mom & Dad came for a visit.
I gave some of my Kabocha seeds to the students to show kids how to start seeds in yogurt cups. My cousin Kailee sent me a great way to start seeds using toilet paper rolls.
I also got some great ideas of games using plastic bottles I can take to Zambia, and the certainly have a lot of plastic bottles every where in Africa.
It was a wonderful event and thank you to all who donated to SEEDS.
I sure am getting excited about going to Africa to build the tree nursery in April. I leave one week from today! Wueeee!
I have met so many wonderful people who want to come to plant trees so I will let you all know when I have that organized. If you are interested in coming for a week to Zambia to plant trees and then spend the 2nd week doing a Safari in Liuwa Plains National Park and then visiting Victoria Falls in Livingston send me a message. I will put you on the contact list. You may email me at joanne@sendseedstoafrica.org or leave a message in the comments section and I will keep it private.

Thanks so much and Happy Spring!
