SEEDS was invited to share in the wonderful Canadian Organic Growers Conference held last Saturday, Feb.22, 2014, in Toronto.
You could tell it was their 8th year running as this event was so well organized. The lunch provided was amazing, the speakers were great and they even had volunteers to cover your table so the Exhibitors could attend some of the presentations.
I was only able to hear three of the speakers, Thierry Vrain who worked as a scientist for Agriculture Canada for 30 years and now he is spreading the dangers of GMO’s.
The 2nd speaker was 14 year old, Rachel Parent who started the annual Kids Right To Know March in Toronto. Way to go Rachel!
Thirdly I was fortunate enough to meet as well as hear Michael Schmidt speak. I had seen Michael’s video on the internet about his biodynamic farm in Ontario. I couldn’t believe I actually got to hug him!
I learned so much that day and I am very thankful that I met Tanmayo Krupanszky of COG Toronto in The Big Carrot where she invited me to attend. I was picking up my weekly bucket of seeds to take home to dry.
Thank you Tanmayo!
I was also fortunate to meet all of my fellow exhibitors who also made the day very interesting and enjoyable.
I was so happy to get a light weight hose from Roger and Rosslyn at ClearFlowHose.com. I needed a hose to make my bucket irrigation system in Zambia and they had the perfect hose that was not too heavy for my suitcase. I will show you pictures of the real thing when I get back from Zambia in May.
I also met two wonderful students, Fatemeh and Samantha and they want to help SEEDS in their home cities, Ottawa and Newmarket. Unfortunately I only took a picture of Fatemeh, (sorry Samantha, I will get you next time), but I will let everyone know how it all pans out in another blog post. Thanks for your interest and encouragement ladies!
I would reconmend this conference to everyone so I will remind you next year, when and where it will be held.
