This is the question we hoped to answer from Volume 1 of “Seed-Full Sundays”.
How can land best be used to support all creatures and provide food for humans? Can enough food be grown for our population and still maintain natural areas for the other species and the support of the global environment? What is the balance?
My answer to this question would be that the human race will not survive unless we all come to realize that we are just another species, and our interdependence with other species is crucial to the survival of our planet.
Permaculture, which mimics nature and uses nature to create a cohesive balance between plants, animals, earth, water and the sun will best help the land support all creatures. We need to fertilize the land naturally to produce healthy vegetables and food for animals.
This is definitely a complex question and this blog will attempt to explain ways in which all species may survive together in peace.
This is a young giraffe as his/her spots are light in colour. As they mature the spots will get dark.
Have I mentioned that I will be going to Zambia for the whole month of April to hopefully build the tree nursery. Fredrick is our manager in Zambia and we communicate via text, Skype, phone and occasionally email.
I am so happy to report that Fredrick informed me that he has now dug two compost pits 3 metres by 1.5 metres. This compost will be invaluable when filling the planting tubes with seeds.
He also informed me that we now have a resident sheep to provide manure and Fredrick wants to get some goats to do the same job.
I have so many plans and hope I will accomplish all that I want to do in 4 weeks.
I will take many pictures and video’s while I am there so you will get the full photo journal when I come back to Canada I also hope to raise enough money to purchase a camera here to leave with Fredrick so he can take photo’s of SEEDS progress and keep us all up to date.
For now I will wish every one a Happy Spring and if you feel like planting some seeds or trees now, instead of waiting until after our frost, here is the place to do so.
You may donate here and we will let you know where we planted for you.
Please let me know via the comments section your full name, including middle initial, if you require a tax receipt.
I won’t make it public unless you say too!
Plus the amount of the donation and if you have a preference where your money goes.
To help People, Elephants or the Environment.
Thanks a bunch!
Joanne
