It has been our pleasure to donate an Amarula, 3 Musahuli, 3 Lemon, and 3 Mango trees and Baobab seeds to Limulunga Community School which is just up the road from us near Limulunga Palace and the Nayuma Museum.
The Head teacher, Mubita Mwalusi happened to send me a message saying Hi, on https://www.facebook.com/Siloziseedbanktreesforelephants/.
I sent back a message saying”Do I know you?” and then I found out he was the Head teacher at a school just up the road from our resource gardens, The Silozi Seed Bank & Trees for Elephants and SEEDS B & B Mongu-Mulopo Flats.
We had a lovely couple, Natalia & Afonso, from Portugal, staying with us and they were keen to help out in anyway they could.
The first thing they did was take the white powdered seeds out of the Baobab seed pods.
- We purchased from Livingstone
- one Baobab seed pod
- Afonso, a SEEDS volunteer, who planted them at a local school
- breaking them open
- Fredrick showing them what to do
- Natalia breaking open the pods
- Silozi Seed Bank & Trees for Elephants, Mongu Zambia
Then they went to the school to deliver the vegetable & Baobab seeds and help plant the trees.
- local volunteers
- a great community effort
- 1st putting in black soil from the Barotse Flood Plain
- Afonso planting trees
- They were given a lovely dinner from the school
- The whole school
- We need bags like these to start growing the Baobab seeds
Thank you to Fredrick at https://www.facebook.com/Siloziseedbanktreesforelephants/ for donating the trees and vegetable seeds. ( Tomatoe, Butternut Squash, pumpkin and sweet pepper).
Thank you to Head teacher Mubita for arranging this day, taking pictures and providing a wonderful meal and showing Natalia & Afonso to the Limulunga Palace and Nayuma Museum. You are a great teacher!
Thank you to all of the volunteers in Limulunga and Natalia & Afonso for helping to plant these trees and sending pictures so we may learn about it here in Canada.
